Minister of Works, Mr. Mike Onolememen
The Minister of Works, Mr. Mike Onolememen, has restated the Federal Government’s commitment to the completion of abandoned but critical road projects across the country.
A statement signed by an Information Officer in the ministry, Mrs. Uchenna Aso, and made available on Sunday said the minister gave the assurance during an inspection tour of the 400-metre long Utor Bridge along Asaba-Ebu-Uromi Road in Delta State.
Onolememen expressed satisfaction with the pace of work at the site, pointing out that the project, which was awarded in 2006 but abandoned in 2009, had been resuscitated by the present administration because of the economic viability of the road.
He said the project was revived in December 2012 with a new completion date of June 2014, and put the level of work done so far at 43 per cent.
The minister, according to the statement, gave an assurance that the road would be of good standard in view of the quality of work going on.
The road, Onolememen was quoted as saying, was a major Federal Government project in Delta State and would serve as an alternative access road from to Edo State, while also reducing the travelling hours from Delta to Abuja by two hours.
The minister, who said work was going on according to the design, however, directed the contractor, Messrs Inter Bau Construction Limited, to accelerate work in order to meet the completion date.
