With the nation on high alert due to the constant threat of Boko Haram, the abject poverty in which some Nigerians find themselves in and the deplorable electrical supply this country is infamous for, the government has chosen to attack a serious problem.
Pure Water
Why? Because our government really has nothing better to do.
Minister of Environment, Mrs. Hadza Mailafia, has announced the intention of the government to ban sachet water containers of all kind, popularly called Pure Water. The ban would take effect from January 2014, with the sachets being replaced with paper bags. According to her, the move to ban the plastic bags are necessitated by the numerous health and environmental hazards associated with their use. The minister noted that unlike the paper bags that could easily decompose, plastic bags are non-biodegradable materials which could stay in the soil for years, contaminating water sources when washed into the rivers by the rain.
