IGP Appeals For Intelligence Information To Combat Crime

The Inspector General of Police (IGP); Muhammed Abubakar has called on members of the public to avail the Nigerian Police with information of criminality that will enable the police achieve zero crime rate in the country.
According to the police boss who was represented by the AIG Intelligence force headquarters, no police in the world, no matter how well equipped, trained and numerated can achieve its policing mandate without intelligence and community support.
He made this known at workshop on intelligence-led policing and community driven policing practices to encourage internal security. Security agencies, traditional rulers, political holders as well as citizens from the South South Geopolitical zone gathered to be enlightened on the .
According to the IG, the workshop is aimed at charting a new course for the security future of the country, a future that will be built on intelligence- led policing and partnership with members of the public, adding that the workshop was structured to bring together stakeholders in the security sector to encourage community partnership and political support in the intelligence functions of the force while also identifying factors that might be militating against cordial police community cooperation in relation to internal security management.
Cross River State Deputy Governor Mr. Effiok Cobham urged members of the public to always give intelligence information that can help the police nab criminals from their hideouts and called for inter-agency cooperation in relationship to sharing intelligence information that is relevant.
Effiok called for more capacity building among security agencies especially for the police adding that professionalism must be improved in the area of recruitment and training to ensure that they become in tune with modern technological standard to measure up with their counterpart in developing countries.
